Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo owners appreciate their key fob's handy remote that comes with features. They can lock and unlock their vehicle, start the motor, and even locate it with an app for smartphones.

Locking the Doors
Volvo's remote keyfobs allow you to unlock your vehicle's doors, tailgate, and flap for filling up with fuel at the push of a button. They can also switch on the ignition, turn off the alarm, and operate your sunroof when it's installed. You'll never again have to look for your keys, or lose access to your vehicle.
You might not know about certain key fob features that are not visible. You can make use of the lock/unlock option manually if your key fob battery fails.
The key fob should be held with the Volvo logo facing upwards, and press the manual lock/unlock. Find the black button that is situated near the edge of the body of your key fob and gently press it to unlock a cover that hides a manual key blade. The cover can be turned clockwise using a flathead, or coin.
Beginning the Engine
Modern Volvo key fobs provide an experience of convenience and function that is unparalleled by manual keys. But, just like any other battery-powered electronic device the key fob may lose its charge or stop functioning over time. If you notice that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock button, it may be time to replace the battery.
If your car is equipped with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start accessory, you can also make use of the key fob in order to activate this feature. The vehicle will be able to cool or heat at the same temperature that it was set to while it was parked. It will last for up to 15 minutes.
Using a fingernail, carefully remove the cover on the back of the key fob. The button should be beneath the cover on an angle that is near the edge of the body. Remove it by sliding it downwards, then to the right. The cover will be released, and then slide away to reveal the manual blade! If you are unable to locate the button, check the newly revealed manual key access for a hidden lever or slot.
Close the Windows
One of the lesser-known features that is not visible on Volvo key fobs is that you can roll down all of the windows instantly by using the fobs. This is very useful in situations where you need to squeeze into parking spaces that are tight or simply want fresh air while driving.
To unlock your Volvo do this, press and hold down the unlock button on your Volvo remote for four seconds. This will lower the windows and the sunroof, should you have one. After you've finished using the vehicle, you can shut all windows by pressing the lock key for four seconds.
You can also activate the panic alarm inside your car with the key fob. This will produce the alarm sound loud enough to attract attention and deter thieves. It also helps you get home safely when you've been out all night. This feature is great for those who live in a dangerous area or want to protect your family when you are away from home.
Opening the Tailgate
Volvo's key fob is stuffed with many useful features. They are great if you have your hands full with groceries or helping kids to pack their sports gear after a workout.
For instance, if have the available Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped), you can open it by using the key fob. Just press the button to open it, and then press the same button to close it once you're done.
When you're ready to start your vehicle, use the key fob to press the START button (and don't fret about your battery failing or your car not starting because it comes with a backup mechanical key slot too). This is just one of the many tricks you can use to use with your new Volvo.

Turning off the Alarm
Modern key fobs offer many advantages over a standard mechanical car key. They don't always work perfectly and batteries can fail. If you're in a hurry or aren't keen on going to a shop to have your key fob reprogrammed, you can make it work at home.
Lay out your key fobs along with batteries and any other keys on a clean surface. Locate the small black button located at the bottom left corner on the key fob and slide it to the right. The cover should fall off and fall off and reveal the mechanical key blade underneath.
You can open all doors as well as the rear gate by pressing the unlock button on the fob's keypad twice. The lock button will also close the sunroof and windows (if equipped) by pressing it for 2 seconds. Connect the battery and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't then the owner's manual should contain a reset process.
